Appeal / Request for Reinstatement Form

As per the Rules of Conduct and Enforcement Policy, if you have been suspended from the Brantford Public Library, you may appeal the decision. Appeals may also be submitted for suspension extensions or the denial of reinstatement. Appeals must be submitted in writing, either through a letter or the following online form.

If you have been issued a one (1) year suspension from the Brantford Public Library, you must apply for reinstatement in order to be allowed back at the Library after the suspension period is over.  The request for reinstatement must be submitted in writing, either through a letter or the following online form.

The Brantford Public Library considers the following criteria when deciding whether to grant an appeal or the reinstatement of library privileges:

a) the safety of the public and Brantford Public Library staff and the circumstances surrounding the suspension;
b) the past behaviour of the person making the application with regards to the Rules of Conduct;
c) the person’s reasons for seeking reinstatement;
d) where applicable, whether the person has reimbursed Brantford Public Library for all expenses incurred as a result of the person’s actions; and,
e) mitigating factors that may support successful re-entry.

Appeals are first directed to the CEO/Chief Librarian. Responses to appeals from the CEO/Chief Librarian will be provided within 30 days from the date of receipt. Further appeal may be made to the Brantford Public Library Board. Responses to appeals from the Library Board will be provided within 60 days from the date of receipt. The decision of the Library Board is final.

A person’s library privileges shall not be reinstated during the application for reinstatement or appeal process.
